About these calculators

Tax planning is mostly about thresholds: the bracket line a raise crosses, the income at which IRMAA surcharges, the net investment income tax, the QBI phase-out and the Roth IRA limit switch on, and how much of a 2015 salary a 2026 salary actually is. These tools make the thresholds visible so decisions about a Roth conversion, a capital gain or a retirement withdrawal can be sized to the line.

The tax bracket visualizer shows how income fills each federal and state band and what the next dollar costs. The tax cliff map plots your income against every threshold that matters at once. The inflation salary calculator converts a salary from any past year to 2026 dollars with Bureau of Labor Statistics CPI data. The projected 2027 brackets are published separately and will be updated when the IRS issues the official figures.

Common questions

What are the 2026 federal tax brackets?
For single filers: 10% to $12,400 of taxable income, 12% to $49,850, 22% to $106,450, 24% to $203,300, 32% to $258,550, 35% to $640,600, 37% above. Married joint brackets are double through 32%. Taxable income is after the $16,100 / $32,200 standard deduction.
What is a tax cliff?
An income level where a benefit disappears or a surcharge begins all at once rather than gradually — Medicare's IRMAA tiers are the classic case, where one dollar over the line adds hundreds of dollars a year in premiums two years later. The cliff map shows how far you are from each one.
How much is $100,000 from 2015 worth today?
About $138,000 in 2026 dollars using CPI-U. A salary that has not kept pace with that is a real-terms pay cut, which is what inflation indexing of the tax brackets is designed to offset.
