TakeHomeTax is committed to making our tax calculators and educational content accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. We aim to meet or exceed the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA standards.
Accessibility Features
Steps we have taken to make TakeHomeTax accessible:
Semantic HTML — Pages use proper heading hierarchy, semantic elements (nav, main, article, section), and landmark roles.
Keyboard navigation — All interactive elements (form fields, buttons, links) are reachable and operable using a keyboard alone. Focus states are visible.
Color contrast — Text contrasts meet WCAG AA minimums (4.5:1 for body text, 3:1 for large text).
Responsive design — Content reflows for mobile devices, screen magnifiers, and zoom up to 200%.
Form labels — Calculator inputs have associated labels, and we use ARIA attributes where appropriate.
Alt text — Images include descriptive alt text. Decorative images are marked appropriately.
Skip links and breadcrumbs — Pages include navigational aids to help screen reader users orient quickly.
Plain language — Editorial content avoids unnecessary jargon. Tax terminology is defined inline.
Known Limitations
We are actively working to improve accessibility. Known limitations:
Some complex visualizations (the interactive U.S. tax map, the tax bracket visualizer) rely on visual layout. We provide tabular alternatives in many cases but coverage may be incomplete.
Third-party content (advertisements, embedded widgets) is outside our direct control. We expect ad networks (Google AdSense) to maintain their own accessibility standards.
Older blog posts may not fully conform to current accessibility standards. We update them as we identify issues.
Browser and Assistive Technology Support
TakeHomeTax is tested with current versions of:
Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge (desktop and mobile)
VoiceOver on macOS and iOS
TalkBack on Android
NVDA and JAWS on Windows (best-effort testing)
If you use a different assistive technology and encounter problems, please let us know.
Reporting Accessibility Issues
If you encounter content that is difficult to access, use, or understand, please report it. We treat accessibility issues with the same priority as content errors.

We aim to acknowledge accessibility reports within 3 business days and resolve significant issues within 30 days.
Conformance Status
Our target is WCAG 2.1 Level AA conformance. We are not yet formally certified or audited by a third party. The site is reviewed internally on an ongoing basis. This statement is our best assessment of current status as of the last updated date above.
